The Federal Implementation of Five Years Visa Reciprocity Policy between Nigeria and the USA

In a press statement released by the Ministry of interior, the federal government directed the full implementation of a new visa reciprocity for citizens of the United States of America with effect from 1^st March 2023.

This directive came after approval of the new Bilateral Consular Policy Agreements between the governments of Nigeria and the United States of America.

The agreement also includes:

a. the reciprocity of five-year tourist visa validity for American citizens pursuant to Section 30 of the Immigration Act 2015; and

b. Extension of visa validity to three years for Diplomats and government officials between the citizens of Nigeria and the USA.

This directive is in line with the Nigeria Visa Policy launched in 2020 with the view to improve tourism and promote cultural exchange between both nations.

As part of the agreement the United States will implement a similar policy and extend Tourist Visa Policy for Nigerian Citizens to five years.

It is important to note that the said similar policy has not yet been implemented by the United States. In the event that such policy is implemented we will do well to update you.
