Data for passport application must tally with NIN, says Nigeria Immigration Service

The Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) in a statement released on their verified Twitter account have called on those who want to apply for their international passports, whether their first application or a renewal, to ensure that the data they submit matches that on their National Identification Number (NIN). The release of this information is to guide against Nigerians having problems during their passport application process.

The National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) established under the NIMC Act No. 23 of 2007 with the mandate to establish, own, operate, maintain, and manage the National Identity Database in Nigeria has on its own part released information on how Nigerians who have obtained their NIN can adequately confirm the accuracy of the NIN and the data so contained.

Information release on the updated process of confirmation comes in handy particularly with the discontinuation of the previous NIN verification procedure and replacement with a more secure tokenized version of the same process, which adds an extra layer of security to protect individual data privacy through an encrypted coded representation of NIN.This number generated can be used to carry out verification rather than the individual providing their actual NIN itself.

This statement follows the previously released  statement of the NIMC that come April 01, 2023, Nigerians, home and abroad must pay a fee to process their NIN integration and verification during passport applications.
