The Nigerian Immigration Service (NIS) announced that about 140,000 international passports are still uncollected nationwide. This announcement was made by The service spokesman, Deputy Comptroller of Immigration Service ( DCI) Mr Tony Akuneme in an interview with News Agency of Nigeria.
It was revealed in the interview that about 40,000 of the total 140,000 are in the Alausa Passport office. The apparent cause of this has been due to wrong contact information provided by applicants so informing these applicants that the passport is available for pick-up.
In the interview he went on to implore applicants to process their international passports using correct details and without involving racketeers.
He noted that it was wrong perception, to say that getting fresh or renewing international passport was very difficult.
Applicants and intending applicants were encouraged not to partonise racketeers to process their passport and should rather visit the official site and process their website themselves.
